The Danger of Being Right

This week at Reality, Pastor Mike Portland unpacks Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 7, challenging the common misunderstanding of “judge not.” Rather than eliminating discernment, Jesus confronts the deeper issue of a critical, prideful heart. Mike explains that one of the greatest dangers for sincere followers of Jesus is spiritual pride—the tendency to clearly see faults in others while remaining blind to our own. True Christian community is marked by “merciful accountability”—gently restoring others—and “wise discernment,” holding both truth and love together. Ultimately, the message points us to Jesus as the only righteous and merciful judge. As we receive His grace, we are freed from our natural bondage to pride and equipped to extend humility, patience, and compassion to others.
