The Unknown God: Searching for Meaning in a Culture of Confusion

Acts 17:16-34

In a world overflowing with options and limitless choices—customizable coffee, curated social media feeds, endless entertainment, and even self-defined identities—we’re promised freedom, fulfillment, and happiness. Yet, despite unprecedented opportunities, many of us are more anxious, restless, and unsatisfied than ever. We are drowning in possibilities but starved for satisfaction.

Like ancient Athens, surrounded by idols and false promises of meaning, our culture is searching for purpose in all the wrong places. Paul’s encounter with the Athenians and their altar to an "unknown god" (Acts 17:23) is a mirror to our modern confusion. He challenged their worldviews—polytheism, Epicureanism, and Stoicism—each echoing today’s search for favor, pleasure, and self-improvement.

But true purpose isn't found in endless options, temporary pleasures, or striving for perfection. It's found in the Truth—the risen Christ. Jesus is not just another option in our search for meaning. He is the truth revealed, the only One who can satisfy our deepest longings.

This sermon explores how the resurrection of Jesus confronts the false promises of our culture and invites us to real life, real joy, and real purpose—not as something to be earned, but as a gift to be received.

Join us as we explore how to move beyond confusion and discover true meaning in the One who knows us fully and loves us completely.
