Jesus is Not Your Consolation Prize

Jesus is not a consolation prize, and two short parables in Matthew 13 make that unmistakably clear. The parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Great Value both tell the story of men who discovered something so extraordinary that they sold everything they owned to obtain it. The point is not that the kingdom of God costs something you must pay. The point is that the kingdom is worth more than everything you could ever give up. What we sacrifice for reveals what we truly treasure, and the invitation of these parables is to examine whether Jesus is genuinely our greatest treasure or simply what we settle for when life does not go as planned. Because of what Christ has already done, giving everything on the cross for the joy set before Him, we have every reason to trust that He is worth whatever He calls us to surrender. He is not what you settle for. He is the treasure your heart was made for.
