MATCH THE CROWNS

Directions:
Hide the 4 crowns around the class or outside and have the kids find them and bring them back to the circle to match on the printout. You can do this multiple times if the kids are enjoying it, repeating what is below after each time.

Say:
Judah’s good kings worshiped God. These kings helped the people know how to follow God and do what was right. Judah had some good kings, but even good earthly kings sin. Jesus is our faithful King who never sinned. Jesus will come back to earth to make everything right. He is our King forever.

CROWN CRAFT

Directions:
Have the kids place the sparkly stickers on the circles and ovals on the crown printout (it’s ok if they don’t want to place on those spots).

Say:
For our craft we placed jewels on a crown. Who wears crowns? [Allow responses.] Yes! Kings wear crowns. Judah was ruled by kings. Today we are learning about Judah’s good kings. Our crowns say “Judah’s good kings worshiped God.” Can you say that? These kings helped the people of Judah know what was right. The good kings of Judah led the people to worship God and follow Him.

GUESS THE OBJECT

Directions:
Invite the kids to take turns feeling in the bag to guess what the object is. Remember we want this to be a happy experience, so please do not do anything that would scare the child as they are putting their hand in the bag.

Say:
What was in our bag?  A crown!  Who wears crowns? That’s right kings and queens. Today we learned that Judah’s good kings worshipped God. We can worship God too!

COUNT GROUPS OF 8

Directions:
Have the kids sit in a circle. Dump out the bag in front of them. Tell the kids that first we need to make piles of all the different objects. A pile of feathers, a pile of pompoms, a pile of sticks, etc.  Have the kids sort the objects into different piles. (Note the objects are sorted by type not by color). Once the kids have made all the different piles, begin counting one pile at a time.  Act surprised that each group comes out to 8 items.

Say:
Josiah was only eight years old when he became king. He was a good king, and he found a special book that told the people how to follow God. Eight is not very old to be a king, but Josiah helped the people of Judah. Even though you are a child, you can tell other people that God is good to everyone. Let’s say our key passage phrase together: "The LORD is good to everyone. Psalm 145:9"

FIND THE BIBLE

Directions:
Hide the Bible in a designated area. Invite preschoolers to look for the Bible. When a child finds it, gather together and prompt her open the Bible to the bookmark. Read the key passage (Psalm 145:9) and invite boys and girls to repeat it after you. Place the bookmark back in the Bible and play again as time allows. Consider letting older preschoolers hide the Bible as you play additional rounds.

Say:
One of Judah’s good kings was named Josiah. He became king when he was only eight years old! When Josiah found a book called the book of the law, which told people how to live for God, he knew the people were not following God like they should. Josiah helped the people know how to follow God again.

PIN THE JEWELS ON THE CROWN

Directions:
Give each child a gem and apply double sided tape to the back. Invite one preschooler at a time to place the gem anywhere they like on the crown poster.  You can also try have the kids close their eyes as they attempt to place their gem on the crown.

Say:
In this game we placed jewels on a crown. Who wears crowns? [Allow responses.] Yes! Kings wear crowns. Judah was ruled by kings. Today we are learning about Judah’s good kings. Judah’s good kings worshiped God. These kings helped the people of Judah know what was right. The good kings of Judah led the people to worship God and follow Him.

WATER THE FLOWERS

Directions:
For Go & Serve Saturday we planted flowers outside the Early Childhood classroom. There are mini watering cans you can use to take the kids outside and water the flowers. This is an ongoing activity for the season. There is a hose outside by the flowers you can use to fill up the cans. (It’s also nice to do this ahead of time if you want.)
