Lesson:

SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 2 7– 2 8 ; MARK 1 5 –1 6 ; LUKE 2 3 – 2 4 ; JOHN 1 9 –20
STORY POINT: Jesus rose from the dead and is alive.
CHRIST CONNECTION: Jesus came to earth to rescue sinners by dying on the cross. Jesus rose from the dead and is alive! Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus is His follower and is welcomed into God’s family forever.
KEY PASSAGE: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
BIG PICTURE QUESTION: Who is Jesus? Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth to save us.

TEACHING STYLE: Play, community building, interactive learning through storytelling, activities and song, help build a safe and fun environment for our Early Childhood kids to learn about God's love and His Word. Active learning connects individual stories to the broader "Big Picture" of God's redemptive story. As our littles have gotten older, the stories become longer, their interaction with the Gospel goes deeper, questions are asked and answered, vocabulary grows and Gospel seeds continue to be sown in their hearts.

COVER THE CROSS

Directions:
There will be 3 crosses on the ground with painters tape. Break the kids up into groups and have them cover the crosses with blocks, giant dominoes and craft sticks.

Say:
You used blocks to trace a cross shape. Jesus died on the cross, which was very sad. After Jesus died, His body was placed in a tomb. But there’s more to the story! Jesus rose from the dead and is alive. This is very happy news! Jesus came to earth to rescue sinners by dying on the cross and coming back to life.

GIANT RESURRECTION EGGS

Directions:
Resurrection Eggs are a great way to interactively teach through Holy Week from the triumphal entry through Christ’s resurrection! Each egg contains a piece of the story. Feel free to adapt what is written on the cards to fit the ages of the group.

Say:

EASTER CRAFT

Directions:
There was a bit of a mix-up in the number of craft kits that were ordered. If there are 11 kids or less, just pick ONE of the crafts for them to do and use that whole set so all the crafts are the same. If there are 12 kids or more, let them choose between the 2 crafts. Both crafts are foam sticker crafts. The blue string on the Rejoice craft is a bit difficult to work with, feel free to not use it.

Say:
Jesus died on the cross, but the best news of all is that Jesus rose from the dead and is alive! Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus is His follower and is welcomed into God’s family forever.

GROUPS OF THREE

Directions:
Dump out the bag of items onto the rug. Have the children help you sort the items into like groups. Be sure to emphasize counting 1-2-3.

Say:
You found so many groups of three. Three is an important number in our lesson today. Something very special happened on the third day. The soldiers had put Jesus on a cross. The sky got dark. Jesus cried out, and then He died. Jesus’ body was put in a special cave called a tomb. On the third day some women went to the tomb, but Jesus was not there. Jesus rose from the dead and is alive. Jesus died on the cross to rescue sinners. Jesus rose from the dead and is alive! When we trust in Jesus, we become part of His family and follow Him.

WATER THE FLOWERS

Directions:
For Go & Serve Saturday we planted flowers outside the Early Childhood classroom. There are mini watering cans you can use to take the kids outside and water the flowers. This is an ongoing activity for the season. There is a hose outside by the flowers you can use to fill up the cans. (It’s also nice to do this ahead of time if you want.)
