Lesson:

SCRIPTURE: LUKE 11; 18
STORY POINT: Jesus taught people to keep praying.
CHRIST CONNECTION: Jesus told people to keep praying. God is a good Father. The best prayer we can pray is to say we are sorry for our sin. Jesus died and came back to life so we can be close to God.

KEY PASSAGE: You will call to me and pray, and I will listen to you. - Jeremiah 29:12
BIG PICTURE QUESTION: What is prayer? Prayer is talking with God.

TEACHING STYLE: Play, community building, interactive learning through Bible story telling, activities and song, help build a safe and fun environment for our Early Childhood kids to learn about God's love and His Word. Active learning connects individual stories to the broader "Big Picture" of God's redemptive story. As our littles have gotten older, the stories become longer, their interaction with the Gospel goes deeper, questions are asked and answered, vocabulary grows and Gospel seeds continue to be sown in their hearts.

EARLY CHILDHOOD VERSE

Directions:
1st - Invite a child to open your Bible to the verse. Read the verse aloud.
2nd – Bring out the folded prayer hands and have a child open them and then reread the verse.

Say:
God promises to listen to our prayers. When we pray, we can thank God for sending Jesus, the Messiah. We can thank God for rescuing us from sin. We can also ask God for help when things are hard or when we have questions. God wants us to come to Him, and He promises to hear our prayers.

BIG PICTURE QUESTION

Directions:
Each week we are going to repeat the Big Picture Question and Answer. The questions remain the same for 4/5 weeks. It is really important that when it is your turn to serve, you do this activity. Through consistent repetition this is one part of how we are helping our littles learn more about God, Jesus and the Bible!

Read the Big Picture Cards just like you would the Bible Story Cards (make it sound really exciting!)

MATCH BREAD

Directions:
Have the kids take turns drawing cards and finding a match. (Match will be one large bread card with one small bread card)

Say:
Jesus told a story about a man who went to his friend’s house in the middle of the night for bread. Jesus said, ‘At first the friend said no because everyone is sleeping. But if you keep asking, he will help you.’ Jesus said, ‘Pray like that! Keep asking, and God will answer.’ Jesus taught people to keep praying.

WHEN SHOULD I PRAY?

Directions:
Lay out the prayer cards on the ground, reading each one as you put it down. Then have the kids take turns tossing the bean bag on a card. Whichever card it lands exclaim, “I can pray (read the card)!”

Say:
Jesus taught people to keep praying. When we pray, we can pray aloud or silently. Either way, God hears our prayers. The most important prayer we can pray is to tell God we have sinned and ask for His forgiveness. Jesus died on the cross and rose again so sinners can be made right with God.

PRAYER WALK

Directions:
Let the kids know that you are going to go outside for a prayer walk. A prayer walk is when you walk to different places and pray for who or what you see.  Then take the kids outside (you can take them to the back garden or out in the courtyard).  Make several stops on your walk to thank God for what you see.  Ask the kids for ideas of what they see that you could thank God for.

Say:
"God thank You for the trees!”  “God thank you for the plants!”  “God thank you for the insects!”

CRAFT

Directions:
For this craft it is best to put Jesus’ head on His body and then place the body down first. Then add the prayer, then the kids and animals.

Say:
Read the Lord’s Prayer to the kids.
