Lesson:
SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 9, MARK 2, LUKE 5
STORY POINT: Jesus showed His power by forgiving sin.
CHRIST CONNECTION: Jesus showed His power by forgiving sin and healing the man who could not walk. Jesus can forgive sins and heal people because Jesus is God.
KEY PASSAGE: KEY PASSAGE: In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16
BIG PICTURE QUESTION: What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom.
TEACHING STYLE: Play, community building, interactive learning through Bible story telling, activities and song, help build a safe and fun environment for our Early Childhood kids to learn about God's love and His Word. Active learning connects individual stories to the broader "Big Picture" of God's redemptive story. As our littles have gotten older, the stories become longer, their interaction with the Gospel goes deeper, questions are asked and answered, vocabulary grows and Gospel seeds continue to be sown in their hearts.

NEW! - EARLY CHILDHOOD VERSE - NEW!
Directions:
Each week we are going to repeat the verse of the week. The verses remain the same for 4/5 weeks. It is really important that when it is your turn to serve, you do this activity. Through consistent repetition this is one part of how we are helping to hide God’s Word in the hearts and minds of our littles.
Invite a child to open your Bible to the key passage. Read the key passage aloud and lead children to say the key passage with you. Invite the kids to repeat the key passage after you, phrase by phrase. First, say the passage in a normal voice. Then, say the passage in a whisper. Finally, say the passage loudly!
Say:
Our verse says, ‘Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16. Jesus did many good works, like healing the man who could not walk. This miracle pointed to the glory of God. Can you remember any of the other miracles Jesus did?

Read the Big Picture Cards just like you would the Bible Story Cards (make it sound really exciting!)

STORY CRAFT
Directions:
This craft will work best if the pieces are passed out 1 at a time.
Begin by passing out the background piece, then, 1 at a time, beginning with the 3 stickers that are the back of heads, pass out the stickers and show the kids the example of where they go. Then move to the Jesus sticker, and finally the other people stickers.
Once the stickers have all been placed, pass out the cot and string piece, the man and the brad. Show the kids how to use the brad to attach the man to the cot. (You can show them how to “lower” the cot from the ceiling, and how to spin the man from laying on the cot, to standing next to the cot, “holding” the cot after he was healed).
This is a great craft to use to retell the story with. Once the kids are done, demonstrate to them how they can use the craft to tell the story. Then give the kids turns to either tell the story themselves with the craft or help you tell the story by filling in the blanks.

CARRY THE BLANKET
Directions:
Depending on how many kids are in the class you may have to split them up into groups of no more than 4. Place the doll on the pillowcase, and with the assistant, demonstrate how to carry the pillowcase and then lower it down to the ground without allowing the baby to fall off. Then have the groups of littles take turns doing this around the rug.
Say:
In our Bible story, four friends carried a man who couldn’t walk to see Jesus. When the men got to the house where Jesus was teaching, they did not give up. They wanted their friend to see Jesus, so they took off part of the roof and lowered the man down to Jesus. Jesus forgave the man’s sins and then healed him. Jesus showed His power by forgiving sin and healing the man who could not walk. Jesus can forgive sins and heal people because Jesus is God.

FOOT GAME
Directions:
Have the kids stand up and follow you walking around the rug. Then have them follow you doing different things they can do with their feet. Tip-toe, run, jump, hop, stomp, walk sideways. Then have the kids sit down.
Say:
We can do many things with our feet! Today we learned about a man who had something wrong with his legs and feet. Jesus told the man, ‘Your sins are forgiven!’ Jesus healed the man, and the people praised God. Who forgave the man’s sins? Yes! Jesus can forgive sins and heal people because Jesus is God.
